Celebrating Bihu across the seas

Since we are still celebrating Bihu in spirit (I got my bundle of Pithas from Assam today), we reached out to Piyashi, my junior from school about her experiences of celebrating Bihu in New Jersey this year and she happily shared it with pictures.

With this, we start our series of Guest posts of unique experiences.

I sprinted to catch the NJ Transit train to the New Brunswick Bihu festivities adorned in my beloved “Mekhela Chador”, as if the sound of Dhul, pepa, the aroma of “pitha”,the joy and frolic was waiting for me. Festivities started with “Shrimoyi Oxomi”, the “husori” and the “nasonis” swayed and danced to the amazing tunes! This Bihu I was home away from home relishing Assamese savors. What better way to welcome Spring and new year?
